Is this actually fanspeak? I googled it, and aside from our page, everything that came up was unrelated — it seems to be some management jargon. Couldn't find it used at all in the sense it's being described here outside of our page.

It feels like this is something that was confined to one forum or something for a little while (maybe even something one person passionately said regarding their own tastes), which one person from that forum decided to create a page for here. But forum in-jokes (and similar things like this) aren't really fanspeak, if they're not getting used anywhere else.

Do we really need "Fox Cancels Everything" as a redirect? It looks like just another unnecessary Take That!, like "Gayfish Cullen" or "Nuke The Fridge", if you ask me.

This trope is when people are afraid that there now favorite show will be canceled like Firely, not when a good show gets canceled. I'll Cut List it.

What bothers me with this trope is how do we know that more people would watch it if they thought it would last? Clearly, they're not. Just because it's a Cult Classic or popular in some circles doesn't mean that it should have been popular.

That's why it's currently example-less. There's a lot of people who have reported feeling it personally (I know I have), but there's no real way to prove it has large-scale effects.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.

The Firefly Effect refers to viewers being afraid of committing to a new series because they don't believe the series will last long enough to make up for the investment of time and emotions.

A complicating factor is that there are more choices (i.e. competition) for the average potential viewer than in days past. Most of these competing media have the added advantage of not being tied to a particular time slot (Radio and non-broadcast TV being the chief exceptions). Granted, [[VCR VC Rs and DV Rs]] can record these programmings for later viewing, but with schedule pushes due to preemption (usually for Sports) and episodes that are scheduled to start not on a multiple of 15 their effectiveness is limited.
