This page as well as others refer to both Silent Hill 2 and The Simpsons as the Trope Namers, so which is it? Both?
Should the following be added as an example?
Mycroft Holmes in Sherlock (The BBC Modern-Day Version) When I watched the episode for the first time I was CONVINCED that Mycroft was Moriarty. It was very amusing for my friend who had already see the episode.
I've noticed that this trope is played literally (meaning the mastermind actually is a dog) quite a bit. Interesting...
That's me. Hide / Show RepliesI particularly love the moment when this was played literally in Silent Hill 2, which is the page image. Amuses me a lot.
Switching accounts because I don't like this username anymore, sorryHow does this relate to The Butler Did It? Would it make sense to merge the two?
Hide / Show RepliesThey're Sister Tropes. Butler Did It... Well, I'm trying to find differences. Let's just now assume they are someho- Oh, wait, I've got one difference! The Butler Did It refers to character Ass Pull -ed at end of story, as when The Dog Was the Mastermind is more accpetable, since it actually DOES presents you with character, but shows him as unlikely to be the suspect, so later you can say I saw this guy... Wait! Editing to include that reference now.
Edited by ShinobodyMy appreciation to whoever was so dedicated as to add about twenty links to this trope page so soon after it was launched. I only added three, one of them ahead of time.
That's me.
