Nope, actually the cracker is the one with malicious intent, more often than not they lack actual skill.
Eric Raymond actually makes a good comparison of the two (as well as a scathing critique of crackers) in his article "How to become a Hacker". Basically, a hacker aims to create, the cracker aims to destroy.

Can someone please put a meta-talk in the real-life tab that if someone is a hacker or malicious a-hole that uses cpu's, have them turn themselves in at the local fbi building. Non of us like being a victum off evil cpu abuser's. >:(

Strange. I was given to believe "cracker" denoted a hacker who lacked malicious intent, and just hacked For the Laffs.
