"Cypher in The Matrix is too cynical to believe the war against the Machines can be won, and turns out to prefer the Matrix to the real world, such that he eventually betrays the Resistance to the Agents in exchange for permanent reinsertion into the Matrix.
The machines in the Matrix were shown to be ruthless and practical. Why reinsert Cypher into the Matrix when it would be so much easier to liquefy him and use him for what Morpheus said they used the liquefied dead for? (Major Squick.)

Would a play on this trope occur if this character is also the Token Good Teammate?
Can this trope apply to a potential Yandere? In other words, The Corruption in this case is their love for another character.
