Misfits Super Hoodie Obviously In order to become the Guy in the Mask, he had to keep the gang alive and get the girl to fall for him. Then fall for him again.

The Matrix-Neo's sacrifice at the hands of Smith-would seem to fit perfectly, but perhaps it's been deleted here already for some reason I am overlooking.

According to the description, the example of One Piece: The death of Gol D. Roger, should be in the page My Death Is Just the Beginning, do you agree?

Question: why did this and Xanatos Funeral merge into one trope? I always thought that the point was the Xanatos Funeral's completion hinged upon the death of the perpetrator, while the Thanatos Gambit began with the death.

Indeed. The distinction was so fine, however, that it didn't make sense to have two different trope names for what were ultimately very minor variations on one theme.

And now My Death Is Just the Beginning is the original Thanatos Gambit, while that has taken the role of the original Xanatos Funeral.

Seconded heartily. It's intelligent, slightly obscure but still funny when you get the reference, a great pun, and it perfectly describes the trope. This, in my opinion, is a good example of what trope names should be. Witty, punny, and descriptive.
