Creator of the trope here. I haven't actually seen the movie, so I didn't know that. I think the distinction is fairly irrelevant, since Harley is definitely associated with the team in the movie more than she is in the comics and other adaptations. I'll add the example back in with some modifications to note this technicality.
Okay, so. Harley is never actually a member of the Birds of Prey in the movie: the Birds of Prey team, as such, distinct from a bunch of people who happen to be working together to get this one thing done and expect to go their separate ways afterward, doesn't exist until the closing scenes of the movie — at which point Harley very definitely declines to sign up and chooses to go her own way.
But she is prominently a member of the bunch of people who happen to be working together to get this one thing done, which otherwise consists of the founder members of the Birds of Prey.
So, the question is: Does a character have to be an official member of the team to count? Or does it count if they team up with but are not part of the team, especially if the distinction is obscured in all the promos?
