I might just be overly sensitive regarding the topic, but do trans men (such as Brandon Teena) really count for this trope?

No, they don't. A Sweet Polly Oliver has to be pretending to be male — they can't be actually male.

The entry for Margaret Ann Bulkley, aka James Barry, mentions that, she "performed one of the first successful Caesarians in history." Given that caesareans were named after Julius Caesar, who was delivered that way, and MacBeth referred to someone being "untimely ripped" (and therefore not born of woman, and this referred to a caesarean. does the term "successful" mean that the mother survives the process?
