If you think about it, many articles (esp. commentaries) in newspapers have the same intention - and power. Like this pre-World War One joke illustrates:

A journalist tells his friends: "The Tsar of all Russians will explode. I tell you he will explode."

Friend: "Why? What happened?"
Journalist: "I wrote a strongly worded article against him."
