Cut because this trope is now No Real Life Examples, Please!.

I'm not actually gonna put this on here because it just seems egotistical ,but it actually happened to me once. And for no reason. I said I liked the fake Japanese Lotso commercial and some dude (indirectly) called me a Weeaboo because I often have anime characters as icons. I told him I liked both versions of the fake ad, but he fortunately stopped after someone else in the comments defended me. So this is Truth in Television

My POV is: if you truly don't care what about people think of you, then you shouldn't complain about what other people think of you, because that ends up making you sound like a hypocrite who's really saying, "I do care what other people think of me, I just don't like to hear what other people think of me."

From the archived discussion: Yes, the Kyle/Kyle thing definitely counts. There is an entire scene where Kyle (Broflofski) bitches to Stan about how afraid he is that Kyle Scwhartz is going to make Jews look bad by exhibiting every stereotype in the book.

The Token thing, I'd still argue is a straight example but a mild one Played for Laughs. I mean the entire point is that Cartman is acting on a stereotype about black people, and Token, entirely by accident, is behaving like an example of that stereotype and getting pissed about it.

Seconded, the trope comes in Token's single response to being good at bass, "Goddammit..."

Changed line(s) 165 (click to see context) from:
to:
If I live to be a hundred, I will never understand why there are some who are so stereotypical. It's almost as if they want to be seen badly. I think it's interesting that there's no anime/manga section. Does Japan not think about this?

Tokuguy, did you really think it was okay to use the main page to write about that? I'll admit this is one of the more exotic cases of Conversation In The Main Page I've seen, but damn. Besides, why is it interesting that there's no anime/manga section yet? Wikis don't know everything there is to know about every work ever. They only have the information that people have added to it.

It's more likely to say that no one who uses this site has bothered to note any cases of Stop Being Stereotypical that they may have seen. It certainly didn't warrant waxing about it on a main page like that. I'm guessing the Lampshade Hanging bit that was there before Tokuguy added his Natter is a bit of post-examples page humor, so I've left it alone.

And just in case ... Tokuguy, if you were doing that intentionally to riff on the whole idea of Poe's Law, what you added was way too out of left field for it to work.

Does anyone else find that quote problematic at best and disgusting at worst? It's basically saying people shouls suppress their personalities to appease the intolerant. Urgh?

What happened to the picture? Didn't this page have the black people standing on the stereotypes? Or am I confusing this with another page?

It was deleted by Homepie on the 17th of April with the edit reason "very racist, no thanks".

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Have to say that the image in question quite perfectly encapsulates the topic in question, and that the explanation "very racist" sounds very race CARD, as it does nothing to explain what actually makes it unacceptable, it simply accuses.

If someone wants to make a reasonable case for something midway between my version and the other rather than simply reverting me repeatedly, I'm all ears. But iFeminists is about as representative of the feminist movement (which is, indeed, a sprawling mass which rarely achieves uniform agreement on anything) as Michael Steele is of the anti-racism movement. I've seen no willingness to explain the backing of the other viewpoint, only an assertion that I'm trying to back my "brand of feminism" from Jack Mackerel, along with a veiled threat that the entire section will be deleted unless he gets his way.

I think it's indisputable that iFeminists, IWF and such accuse more mainstream groups, e.g., NOW, of acting like stereotypical man-haters and making the movement look bad. What I do dispute is the implicit characterization of these groups as somehow representative of anything resembling the feminist movement. They're conservative organizations first and foremost. These two groups have close ties with and give editorial space to the groups run by Beverley La Haye and Phyllis "By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don't think you can call it rape" Schlafly.

Okay, I've tried to rewrite the feminism back-and-forth into something (hopefully) a bit more neutral, without declaring any winners. Let's see if this flies.

I've made the liberal/conservative split more explicit. I'm not ecstatic about the result—frankly, I don't like even the faint implication that these groups represent feminism—but I'll buy it. (iFeminists and IWF are not anti-feminist in the same way that Dr. Breen is not part of The Combine.)

I'm hoping that this 74.76.184.232 thing was banned for its absolute prejudiced dig towards Americans.
