Can't the one to resolve the Love Triangle be in the same age range as the ones in it? As in, a friend of one of them, or Settle for Sibling?

I am not sure the Hunger Games example counts. Here is the excised paragraph:

  • A variation is seen in The Hunger Games. Peeta's father had been pining for Katniss' mother when they were young, but when she chose Katniss' father, Peeta's father settled for his wife. In the present, Katniss was being courted by Gale, when the organizers of the Hunger Games paired up Peeta and Katniss as a publicity stunt. At the very end, Katniss tells off Gale for coming up with the idea of hiding explosives in care packages that got hundreds killed, including her sister at the end of the revolution, and she goes back to District-12. Years later Katniss and Peeta are having a picnic with their children.

As far as I understand it the participants are:

Mr Mellark (Peeta's Father a baker.)

Mrs Everdeen (Katniss's Mother)

Mr Everdeen (Katniss's Father a miner)

Katniss or Primrose. (The children of their parents)

In order for this trope to apply; Mr Mellark, Mr Everdeen and Mrs Everdeen would need to have been in a love triangle (This appears to be the case, so that part is fine.) However then the person who was excluded from the love triangle (Mr Mellark) would need to be in a relationship with the offspring of Mr and Mrs Everdeen (So either Primrose or Katniss)

She ends up in a relationship with Peeta, not Peeta's Father so this trope does not apply. As such I'm removing the example.

The relative ages do not matter (and in many examples the offspring is indeed the same age as the Hypotenuse of the original love triangle often due to magic or time travel.) However this trope only applies specifically to the child of the original pair marrying the Hypotenuse.
