Just like with Burp of Finality I find the prey's status being based on this to be a dangerous assumption. Say you're in a medieval fantasy team. A dragon eats your knight, and spits out his sword. I bet you anything he'd still be alive in there, screaming "GET ME OUTTA HERE!" Banging on the walls.

I think a more macabre version of this would be spitting out bones, which I've also seen.
Also, wouldn't the clothing be the first to be digested? This makes no sense! Actually, never mind, clothing is harder to digest than flesh.
