Um, how does the picture work? The guy sure doesn't look very sociopathic. I'm not a stickler when it comes to pictures, but this one just looks like a soldier with a gun. Is there maybe a more psycho picture of him out there?
IIRC, that character ("Animal Mother") from Full Metal Jacket doesn't even qualify as a sociopathic soldier, as he doesn't display any overtly brutal behaviour at any point in that film beyond wanting to put a downed sniper out of her misery (who was already responsible for taking out half of his squad mind you, and actually requested to be killed). Bob Barnes from Platoon would be a much better pick, or really anyone else for that matter, such as the helicopter door-gunner from FMJ who is actually mentioned in this article.
Edited by khalini@Ambar: Sociopathic/Psychopathic and psychotic are two different things but I'm not sure with the trope maker had the laymans or professional definitions in mind when naming this trope.
Of the character's in Full Metal Jacket I'd say the best example of a sociopathic soldier is the gunner of the helicopter that takes Joker and Rafterman to the battlefield, after all he is gunning down random civilians, who are simply tending their farm, from a helicopter, that is just passing through and is not meant to be on the offensive, not to mention they are still most likely in. SOUTH. VIETNAM.
Edited by KageNaraThe third type on the list which is newly added is the Pelagian Villain isn't it?
Can someone please link the picture to its work. I want to say Full Metal Jacket, but don't know.
