A paragraph was cut for being "gushing". I wish it hadn't been, but in any case I think it's worth having around. So here it goes, until someone finds it an example page.

One of the greatest Westerns ever. So great, when TNT had an "All the Greatest Westerns Ever Made Movie Marathon", they added an asterisk with a footnote: "Except Shane". It is based on the novel of the same title by Jack Schaefer.

Still debatable. Having read the novel, I find the film to be of lesser quality (plus the scene with the tree stump still comes across as a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment in the movie, whereas it's explained and makes more sense in the novel). As well, when I first saw that "All the Greatest Westerns" pitch on TNT, I figured the "Except Shane" bit meant that Shane WASN'T included in that list because of Adaptation Decay.
