And Crush The Castle ripped off Castle Clout... but at least they bothered referencing it.
Not only did they reference it, they even asked for permission, which means that it is by definition not a rip-off.
I think Yahtzee's quote kind of isn't the best example. Why ? Because Bioshock isn't a knockoff/imitator of System Shock, it's made by the same development team and even explicitly referred to as a direct Spiritual Successor (different setting and characters, but nearly identical ideas behind the gameplay).
Hide / Show RepliesRemoved for the same reason. This isn't an example according to the trope description.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Can we start adding examples to this? I can't think of any offhand, but I've seen such blatant ripoffs before in my life (just can't remember, as I came across them so rarely).
I'm up for joining Discord servers! PM me if you know any good ones! Hide / Show RepliesThere was a thread with a decision to remove them, since many were putting examples that were just accusing, even though those were expressly not allowed in the description.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Actually. I was thinking the same thing... only I assumed that if a series was good enough to get a squeal then it might be worth listing! If there is a game out there somewhere, which is basically homeworld 3 with everything but the name, I need to know, RIGHT NOW.
Seriously, if it exists tell me.
PLEASE.
I'm surprised this is considered a negative trope.
Xonotic is practically the same as Nexuiz 2.5.2. This is justified, though, as one of the developers of Nexuiz decided to sell off, and so the rest had forked.
Anybody else think it's hilarious how the cover pic is a rip-off of a rip-off? The original was an internet flash game called Crush The Castle. Angry Birds was basically a reskin of that with a star rating system rather than a medal rating system.
