"Powerful Pro Baseball Advance series's save system in the success mode is a pain. There's only one save slot each, the file will erase itself when you either clear the story or get a game over, and those games themselves heavily rely on luck, making some of the games' bad ends possible in every corner. Also, every time you load a data, you lose some of your stats."

Actually, each PPBA gives you three save files. Your file gets deleted when you beat the game or lose, but your character gets moved to "データ" after you beat the game. You can put your character in a custom team.

The only time you ever lose stats after loading a file is when you just turn off the system. To prevent this, just go all the way to the "システム" buttom (far right) and click on "セーブして終了します" (2nd/middle button) and press A button three times.

The only bad ends occur only when you do not meet the minimum requirements to pass each chapter.

I'm wondering about that mentioning of a Not Always Right story concerning Pokemon only having one save file. Not Always Right isn't a video game, but the story does describe a consequence of the save game limits. Is the mentioning irrelevant, or should it be allowed as an illustration of the problems caused by the limit?

I propose to remove the current groups and split the examples by video game genre.

The examples are in six groups:

  • Consumable Save Item
  • Other Resource Cost To Save
  • One Save File Per Campaign
  • Save Only at Hub
  • Broad Strokes Save
  • Other / Not Yet Sorted

The problem is that some games belong in multiple groups. For example, in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, a save costs 2 coins (Other Resource Cost To Save), save points are sometimes out of reach (Save Only at Hub), and it does not save things like banana coins (Broad Strokes Save). I would have to list the games three times.

Also, the Consumable Save Item and Other Resource Cost to Save groups belong in the subtrope for Save Token.
