  • Ur Example: Jesus in the Bible.

Jesus is referred to as a sacrificial lamb -the ultimate one- but he doesn't fit the trope description as it's written. I'm not talking about the resurrection. I'm talking about: "S/He is presented as an important part in the plot or having a close relationship with the main characters, perhaps filling a character archetype (love interest, best friend, etc). Then, in a shocking twist, the lamb is slaughtered early on — by episode seven, tops."

Jesus was the main character. The 'plot' of the Gospels focused on him, his life, and his works. He motivated things, acted to initiate events -his mere presence sets off some people, in good and bad ways.

His death occurs at or close to the end of the Gospels, with the Epistles being more 'sequels' or 'what happened to the other guys next' rather than 'going on and into the main part of the plot'.

His followers continued with his work because of his life, not in spite of his death. The plot of the Epistles exists because of Jesus, and continues after the death of the main character, but are a new stage of the story. Neither the Gospels or the Epistles have a plot that would have occurred whether he had existed or not, which many of the examples consist of.

Maybe Sacrificial Lion would work better. I'm not sure, though.

Terry Prachett, when killing a bystander, often spends a paragraph or two describing this person's life and personality. And then have them meet Death. Often you're pretty sure this person is going to die from the way they're first mensioned. Does this count?

I was looking for Mass Effect demotivational posters when I came across a Nihlus poster that described him basically as a Sacrificial Lamb - which is quite true. The poster came from Tv T, and apparently was the page image for this article, but was removed some time ago. What's weird is: Mass Effect is not listed here (or, not listed here anymore). Anyone know if this is intentional? AFAIK Nihlus fits the description perfectly...
