Removed the following example from Pokémon since the characters in question have not yet met:

** Serena and Lillie would later fill in the same role as May and Dawn in Kalos and Alola, respectively.

I'm guessing to make the concept easier to grasp for people who aren't familiar with Frasier.

What exactly was the old name, anyway?

Do you mean "The Niles" or was there an older name?

I meant "The Niles". The page said Niles was the former trope namer, so I knew it had something to do with Frasier, but I wasn't sure what.

The character Frasier, when on Cheers, played the role of stuck-up, snobbish, high-class unable to relate to the more down-to-earth characters that occupied the bar. But he had to mellow out a bit to be the main character of his own show, and so Niles was introduced— basically what Frasier used to be, before Character Development on Cheers/early stages of Frasier kicked in.
