Does "I'm the bloody Queen Mate" Liz 10 from Doctor Who count? Sure, she's one up on the ladder, but she didn't really run things, knowingly at least.
What about Melia from Xenoblade Chronicles? We don't discover shes a princess until arriving in Alcamoth, but she doesn't really go out of her way to hide anything. It just never comes up in conversation.
