If it's getting misuse, why are you renaming it instead of doing a complete overhaul like you did with Dark Magical Girl?

Quirky Bard doesn't describe it properly either and people still have to look at the Laconic to get it.

Why not breaking off the Jack of All Stats part into another trope?

And putting up the other half in this one. How about a good name that describes the "uselessness" of the class?

1. Useless Useful Class - Because they use Useless Useful Spells.

OR

2. Merging the article with Gimmick Class - Because they are.

3. Merging the article with Tier Induced Scrappy. Because they are "low tiers".

So... what was the point of this rename? Besides misuse? It's one word.

Misuse, clarity. Spoony Bard really said... nothing about what the trope is. At all.

New name isn't perfect (there are definitely better ones out there), but it's a big improvement.

This really doesn't fix anything. Quirky is too ambiguous, it can mean quirky in terms of personality or in terms of mechanics. People will likely assume the former, even though (in context) it likely means the latter.

Gimmick Class and Master of None have most of this trope covered. Though, the above suggested Useless Useful Class does actually do a pretty good job of describing where those two tropes are likely to overlap. And I wouldn't be averse to seeing it as a trope.

The problem is that Spoony/Quirky Bard seems to be where a useless class crosses with a bard (or bard-like, whatever that means) class. That's... like... if it was just about one or the other (Spoony Class or The Bard) I'd get it. But both together? It's sort of a mess. A mess that is made even muddier by the name of it changing.

So... yeah... Spoony/Quirky Bard needs some serious work. Not least of all because pretty much all of the page (including the description) assumes that everyone is already familiar with the old name of the trope. Which... pretty much completely undermines the point of renaming it. I- I really can't emphasise enough how much of a mess this trope is.

You people are monsters. Quirky is way too indicative, and Spoony was excellent at memorizing. Not to mention you redlinked the name without justification. Can't you un-redlink it like you did This! Is! SPARTA!?

This is awful. The page has about a million references to "spoony bard", there are tons of links to "spoony bard" all over the wiki, etc.

Eh, I'm used to all the fun being sucked out of the site by this point. A simple, fun trope being renamed doesn't do much to phase me anymore. A buttload more informal than Wikipedia my ass.

While I can totally understand the uncomfortable feeling that the wiki is becoming way more clinical than I'd like, this trope was broken from the getgo. It kept getting linked as The Bard, rather than "ineffectual gimmick class, often a bard."

... that said, the new name doesn't fix that (... like... at all), but that's our fault for not participating in the TRS discussion, now isn't it?

Personally, I think Spoony Bard got the point of, as the above poster put it, "ineffectual gimmick class, often a bard" across much better than Quirky Bard, which seems more like "the bard is weird". Most people using this wiki are likely at least familiar enough with FFIV to recognise the term, familiar enough with RP Gs to know how the bard usually isn't the most useful class, and smart enough to put two and two together.

If you're going with Quirky Bard, the entire page needs to be completely overhauled. Nearly every single section of it references the fact that it has the word "Spoony" in its name.

Can't anymore. But This is an awful rename.

When the trope definition sorts out, here's a suggestion to add under Pathfinder:

  • In Pathfinder, the true useless class is Gunslinger—the guns are they use are the fantasy equivalent of very early flintlock pistols or rifles, so their range and accuracy are terrible, they do not do very high damage, and they use ammunition that must be crafted.

This is an awful rename. Doesn't hold the same gravity as the term Spoony Bard, which as history and an actual reference.
