Despite what the description for Smart People Wear Glasses says about this being the invoked form of that trope, I'd say this is more of a supertrope? It's broader, at any rate. Glasses that are worn for various reasons other than correcting vision.
Has it been officially confirmed that Akira Kurusu/Amamyia Ren/Joker/Whatever you want to call the P5 protag actually wears glasses to appear harmless, or is it just perfectly valid speculation? I mean the Metaverse in an Eldritch Location so it's theoretically possible that his Phantom Thief outfit would have contact lenses or something.
Someone needs to get a shoot of that FLCL character with the glasses when she demonstrates that they are fake.
Don't make me destroy you. @ Castle SeriesWhy did the name change? Brainy specs was a fine name.
In between Not Even Human and Not Quite Human Hide / Show RepliesI'd actually understand this one; Brainy Specs gives the impression that the glasses are directly related to smart people. This trope is pretty much Glasses Do Nothing. I think they should've called it that, actually, since this is basically Goggles Do Nothing, only with glasses.

......did somebody actually spoiler tag Peter Parker being Spider Man?!
Hide / Show RepliesPossible split:
Over in You Know That Thing Where, this discussion suggests a split: Glasses are used as a cue that someone is smart, and when someone uses glasses to LOOK smart (This trope). The suggestion was to rename this trope to something like Faux Eyes or the like, and use Brainy Specs for when the character wearing glasses is the smart guy.
What's the difference between this and Smart People Wear Glasses
