I'm surprised there's no musical examples, as this article should also cover this area in particular. I can bring one, about Heavy Metal, though people with knowledge about other musical genres may collaborate in making a full paragraph.
- Many people have two ways of thinking about Heavy Metal: it's all about fantasy, unicorns and knights fighting dragons (which may be true in cases like the Power Metal) or it's just pure noise without any sense.
I once read a Captain America comic in which Cap was introduced to modern music, and he and Tony Stark had to shout to each other over the noise, because modern music is, of course, very, very loud.
About heavy metal, it's even worse here: (Europe) it's pure noise without any sense and it is satanic. Yes, always, for 75% of people. Not only I recently discovered that not every black metal band is convinced by their own lyrics, but that there is also Heavy Mithril, Folkloric metal, symphonic, and could you believe it, Christian metal. Even Alice Cooper is christian to begin with; I didn't guessed this, judging from his apparition in Waynes World.
Edited by 90.15.30.245If I find a discussion of this concept in a work, can I put it in the main trope list, or must it go on the YMMV tab? I ask because I read these two exchanges in Aunt Dimity and the Lost Prince:
- Lori: I must admit that I didn't have Bree pegged as a romance fan.Dimity: A well-written book is a well-written book, regardless of the label a publisher slaps on it, and Lark Landing happens to be an extremely well-written book.Lori: How stupid can I be, Dimity? Bree tried to tell me about Felix Chesterton's writing, but I didn't listen. I assumed he wrote sentimental stories for teenagers.Dimity: Wrong again.
Yes it is. And the fans are all literally brain dead, and killing a bunch of them would only count as 25 cents of damage. Because rednecks are Acceptable Targets.
Honestly, the anime section has too much cock sucking towards those two particular Gainax shows, since it reeks of hypocrisy. TTGL might not be "popular" to non anime watchers, but it's pretty much the go-to for Super Robot same with Evangelion, that somehow the only Super Robot they watch are those two.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life. Hide / Show RepliesI agree. It seems to be implying that none of the more well known shows have any depths to it.
Could someone organize the Troper Tales by media (Anime, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Fandom, Literature, Music), maybe? Might make it a little nicer to read through.
Hide / Show RepliesThe problem is that several of the Tales are for multiple media.
Edited by KorodzikDone. The ones that are for multiple media are in "other." If you can think of any other categories feel free to add them.
A lot of anime bloggers outright refuse to review anime for children for reasons unknown, assuming that they are for kids and no one else. This is despite that there are gems among them (Gundam Build Fighters is a prime example). I really wish that this practice end soon.
