No, the Banana Republic is the Protectorate. The one exercising the Gunboat Diplomacy is just... their master, I guess? I dunno.

When I think of protectorate, I think of a literal protectorate. Eg: the United States' being a protectorate of several Latin American countries. Is there a trope like this anywhere? Where a country says it's helping for the good of a country but lolz it just wants their stuff? (Money, oil, gold, bananas, etc)
