The page bans Real Life Examples, but there is an example (approximately) from real life that fits: Hitler. While not directly elected, he did take office through a democratic process; he was appointed as chancellor by the elected leader (President Hindenburg). He then managed to get the elected Parliament to pass a bill giving his cabinet absolute authority, turning himself into a dictator.

That doesn't look like this trope at all. Also, Real Life examples are a bad idea.
