I've noticed there's been some debates on whether some power-ups are "good" or not. Maybe this should become YMMV?

I was genuinely surprised it wasn't.

It's basically the power-up version of Tier Induced Scrappy, which is YMMV. Examples Are Not Arguable, yet this certainly is.

I'm moving this here: rather than have a contentious sub-example for Kirby I think it's better to simply cut it, especially given how long and detail-packed the refutation is. Perhaps this material belongs on the game article?

  • The Copy ability  *: a single use visor that scans a living enemy and gives you the ability you would have gotten by simply swallowing them, and it's range isn't even greater than his inhale vortex. While 'Copy' is pretty useless for Kirby, it wasn't really meant for him - it was created for Kirby Superstar, where you could create 'helpers' out of the various abilities (which could be controlled by Player Two). Most of the helpers would be stuck with whatever ability they were created with, but 'TAC', the Copy helper, could absorb and throw away enemy abilities just like Kirby, granting Player Two more options. Note however the ability let Kirby copy powers from enemies he can't normally eat, like Scarfy (the little...orange floating happy thing that chases you if you try to inhale it.) Scarfy gives Crash, a screen wide nuke. This also worked on mini bosses before they were "knocked out"...though I remember it giving oddball results, like powers aside from what you should have gotten. (Sword power from Chef Kawasaki?) Also in Milkyway Wishes, nabbing Copy Power first (actually somewhat easier then trying to get to it after obtaining other powers cause then the T.A.C.'s in that stage are pointless) allowed you to temporarily copy powers the "normal" way, since he couldn't copy powers through eating in that game. For player 2, Copy is is practically a Game-Breaker against certain bosses. By spamming the attack button, you can essentially produce a Death of a Thousand Cuts against Whispy Woods and beat it in under 7 seconds. Plus his guard makes him completely invulnerable. Where Kirby and most other helpers guards make them guard and reduce damage while they knock you back, attacks go right past TAC, since he looks to slip behind the scenery. And did I mention that he can copy other enemies, and goes right back to full health when he does so?

And again I'm moving these Metroid example here: the counterargument for this not being an example is pretty good and we don't want the article arguing against itself. It's better to stick to more obvious examples.

  • The Flamethrower in Metroid Prime was pretty bad. It ate missiles like candy to provide an incredibly short-range attack. Much easier and more effective to simply stand back and Plasma Beam whatever it was to death.
    • Flamethrower is situational: an adult Sheegoth will take a ton of damage from the Flamethrower (even with its beam-absorbing effect active) and fall over in about two seconds (before it can use any of the absorbed energy).
  • The Wavebuster wasn't too impressive either for the same reasons. Its damage was only slightly above just pelting charged wave shots, and it didn't make up for the short range.
    • As with Flamethrower, that too was situational: it would annhilate the otherwise untargetable Cloaked Drone in the Phazon Mines, and it was rather helpful when the final boss turned vulnerable to the Wave Beam.

"Mega Heracross has an enormous Attack boost, which catapults it to among the highest in the series. Its Ability becomes Skill Link, which lets it hit the maximum amount of times for multi-hit moves. Sadly, the attacks boosted by Skill Link are often weaker than its standard attacks like Stone Edge, Megahorn, and Close Combat. Even more, it has to give up useful strategies like Guts and Moxie in order to use this."

this is not entirely accurate, pin missile and rock blast were buffed so they now do more damage that megahorn and stone edge, in addition to being more accurate, and while arm thrust is less powerful than close combat, there is nothing to stop mega heracross from using close combat. While moxie is a great ability, heracros is unlikely to be able to stay in after getting a knock out so it hardly matters. Mega heracross also gets a nice bonus to defense.

Tl;dr: Mega heracross is better than normal heracross in the majority of situations.

"Mega Scizor is like Mega Alakazam in many ways. While its Ability remains the highly abusable Technician, and it gains defensive and Attack boosts, these boosts are not enough. Scizor's Mega Stone takes up the item slot usually filled by Life Orb and Choice Band, which let it hit very hard. The increased prevalence of Fire-types don't help Scizor that much, either. At least it can use Roost a bit more effectively."

Mega Scizor is better than normal scizor in a few situations. While normal scizor with life orb or choice band hits alot harder than mega scizor, and is beter for scizors standard hit and run tactics, mega scizor gains a good boost to its defenses in addtion to a small boost to attack and speed, making it better for setting up with swords dance sets, which cannot use the choice band and usually do not use the life orb.
