You know, a lot of the cited examples do stop smiling in a few rare, dramatic occasions. Do they still count, or should we not take the "perpetual" in the title literally?
PS: I'm assuming that the trope does not count adopting surprised/confused expressions that have no smile in them as disqualifying.
