A note from personal experience. It's possible to use the same blade in a manual razor for about six to nine months, shaving every other day, without cutting yourself - if you don't mind looking as if you haven't shaved for a day or so at all times. If you do this, you get so used to swiping a dull blade over your face that it's uncomfortable to adjust to a sharp one the few times you really need a clean shave (for, say, job interviews) and have to break out a new blade.
