I think this trope is specifically for whole new casts, or the focus being on new characters. I was confused by the name, but because I was reading 'original' as 'first' rather than 'new'.

Deleted the following entry, as it seems that Paradox originates from Yu Gi Oh 5 Ds rather than being a full-fledged "Original Generation" character for the Yu Gi Oh Tenth Anniversary Movie:
- The Yu Gi Oh Tenth Anniversary Movie has Paradox, a villain who wishes to use time travel to destroy the Duel Monsters card game forever, leading to Yugi, Jaden/Judai and Yusei teaming up.
- Paradox wasn't Original Generation. He was from the Future in the 5D's-timeline, which is even revealed in 5D's.
Shouldn't the trope just be called "Original Character"? That's what everyone calls it. And since generation is often associated with its other meaning, its current name is bound to confuse people.
