  • In The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress the lunar rebels use the mass driver meant for sending shipments of grain back to Earth to drop big rocks on Earth military bases.

Nope (with one exception). The rebels used a grid pattern to set up their targets. However, they deliberately tried to avoid causing damage/casualties. There is an in-story note that several targets were offset to avoid things like the Taj Mahal. They also transmit a list of targets to Earth, with the offer to offset/cancel any target if Earth can show that the rebel's data are out-of-date.

The one exception is Earth's Defense Command, located in Cheyenne Mountain. This facility is deliberately targeted by several rocks. Manny Davis comments in-story that the complex might still be there, but that neither men nor machines were likely functional any more.

This is for the first wave of the attacks. The second wave _is_ targeted on military/economic facilities, and warned as such in messages. Manny comments that he almost hurt himself punching in abort commands after various Earth nations recognized the rebels.
