I'd like to see this clarified too - there seem to be a number of examples on this page of people who are just active not necessarily "involving public service". Scrooge Mc Duck!?
Does this trope cover any given job that the rich character has by sheer choice, or does it need to be strictly beneficial to others? That is, does it have to be something such as a doctor or cop, or would something like building watches or raising horses qualify? If the latter doesn't, what trope is that?
