Why? The C stands for Charles and the M stands for Menzies. A better example would be J. K. Rowling.

You could probably make a trope from the fact sci-fi authors are usually Name Q. Surname while fantasy authors tend to be N.Q. Surname and everyone else is generally just Name Surname.
Isn't there a related trope for English science fiction writers? Arthur C. Clarke, Brian W. Aldiss? Iain M. Banks tells a different story about why he added the M., but I suspect there may have been a faint desire to follow the tradition anyway.
