That may actually be the point: it's hard to portray the architecture as myopic. If everybody knows the walls can be torn or walked through, their designers clearly did as well. And since no audience could believe the walls are a physical obstacle, nobody tries to write them as one without adding some reason (usually a need for social discretion or subtlety) why vandalism isn't a reasonable option.
Its funny how this is apparently common in Chinese and Japanese media, but there isn't an anime/manga subsection.
