I know this message is 5 years old, but in case anyone reads it - The idea that it’s a 50/50 choice between “stay or switch” is exactly the same as saying that the lottery had a 50/50 choice of “win or lose”. Just because there are two options does not mean the chance of success is 50/50.
Break the Rules and Change the System
The presented solution is incorrect. The doors, and the initial choice, are a mental smokescreen; the actual choice is a 50/50 "stay or switch". You have no more information than you started with, you merely have fewer choices. It takes advantage of a false mental connection between the first and second choices, which truthfully have no bearing on each other. I would like this acknowledged in the article.
