Suppose you have the hero engaging in a series of games/battles (such as a tournament). He wins every one, but they're not all epic showdowns and showing them all would slow down the story too much. Instead, TPTB show brief clips from each minor victory. Does this fit under any of the montage tropes we have, or might we need a new one?

I can see how that is a Montage, but which one specifically will need more details. You might also want to ask in Lost And Found.
