I suspect a lot of the change Roger Ebert refers to in the page quote is that in the 1970's and 80's, practically every writer, director, producer, TV exec, was male. So of course the actresses would be required to go tits-out at every opportunity. Scroll forward to 2010s and onward - especially in broadcast drama in the BBC/ITV, the other applies - lots of women in exec positions calling the shots. So either no nudity, the return of the L-shaped sheet, and actors required to go balls-out while the women get to remain covered up, or female nudity is either implied or done in vague long-shot or out of focus.

It's weird: we used to take the piss out of American TV for being ridiculously prudish about female nudity and especially nipples, but they're opening up a bit now and at least getting into the 20th century concerning TV nudity: it's British TV that's buttoning up and getting prudish/nannyish/feminist about this. We've imported the L-shaped sheets American Tv doesn't seem to need any more.

"Somebody, somewhere, may have actually done this in real life. Once. Maybe. It's of course largely illogical," sorry I would always do this, I don't like being Naked, even when alone. So the idea that these scenes are odd never once occurred to me, ever.

Well I mean parts of what this refers to, not all of it.

If someone was about to come in with my girlfriend and I, I always did this to both of us. I may not mind people seeing me per-say, but to others, well it's just not wanted. If I walked in on that, I would cover my eyes and apologize

I guess the second part (where they're all alone), the supposedly illogical part is, Why would they sleep in the nude but cover themselves once they get out of bed if they're alone and just going to the bathroom?

But I agree, I've never found those scenes odd. I tried nudity once...

It is overly snarky, because it's honestly pretty common in my experience.

Some people can be fine with being nude in the throes of passion but a bit uncomfortable strutting about naked.

But I've always found the "L-shaped blankets" jokes odd. Is it really so inconceivable for these people that sheets can be manipulated so that they cover just one person? Or the idea that one person is warmer than the other (and, in my personal experience, girls get colder than I do)? Cracked's done a lot of jokes on this like those two concepts are completely foreign.

I'm considering cutting that out/adding a section about how it may be illogical, but it can still be Truth in Television.
