Excuse me. Doki Doki Panic was created to be Super Mario Brothers 2, but then was turned into what it is in Japan. THEN they decided to make the lost levels, and later made Super Mario Brothers 2 out of DDP for America only. Thus the circle of stupidity was complete.
Edited by 216.99.32.44Wii Fit plus does NOT qualify, as far as I can tell. The game with board costs the same as the old game with board, and the game alone (without board) is very cheap.
In other words, it is marketed as a replacement for new people, and an upgrade for old people. It is not marketed as "Buy this now that you first bought the other". It isn't "Buy a game and an expansion for the price of two games". It is "Buy a game and expansion for the price of one", or "Buy an expansion for the price of an expansion".
The non-videogame examples are pretty much covered by Same Plot Sequel. Should we take them to the Trope Repair Shop?
