The current page picture, during the game I thought the text referred to Lucca and her mom. You know... the sidequest where you have to save her mom from being caught by the machine and have to act fast in order to save her?

But he doesn't stop saying it if you complete that quest, does he?

As far as I know, there is no in-game action that makes him stop saying that. Which is why it's a Missing Secret.

If I may, Gaspar's hint is referring to Frog. Remember Magus cursed Frog back in 600 AD right after Magus slayed Cyrus.

However there's a bit of Guide Dang It! that can lead to Lost Forever if you're not careful: 1) If you challenge Magus at 12,000 BC and win, you'll break Frog's curse and complete Frog's 1st sidequest. I think winning still counts even if Frog isn't with you when you challenge Magus and Gaspar won't bring up that hint when he lists off your remaining side-quests later.

2) If you choose to recruit Magus at 12,000 BC, Frog will remain cursed for the rest of the game and Frog's 1st sidequest basically is Lost Forever.

The Guide Dang It! kicks in as the game never tells you this until after the fact as this sidequest is one of two side-quests for Frog. Also the opportunity for this side-quest has to be dealt with during the beginning of The Time Egg side-quest.

So most people will either fight Magus as they hate that character or seek an additional challenge of a 1-on-1 battle, or have Magus join the party to increase the party's capabilities at the cost of saving Frog from his curse and Gaspar never shutting up about you saving someone close to you for the rest of the game.

I know I'm laughably late to the party, but that makes no sense; Frog isn't "someone close to one of you," he's "one of you."

This could also refer to Marle's father and the chancellor's plot.

Honestly, this line could refer to a large number of things that are in the game. Simply because we don't know which one it is doesn't make it a "missing secret". Or maybe it is. A much clearer example should be used as the trope's photo.

I added a spoiler tag to Gaspar's name since, well, it IS a spoiler. There was a comment there reading: "Please note the name is not a spoiler as the player already knows that character's identity by the time this line is said." but this makes no sense. It's like saying "Please note that Snape killing Dumbledore is not a spoiler since the reader already knows that happens when they're at that point in the book." Spoiler tags are there to hide important plot points BEFORE the player encounters them.

Well, here's what happened. When I first added that as a text-only pagequote, that comment made sense. The out-of-context text version wasn't a spoiler because if someone were playing Chrono Trigger and didn't know that character was Gaspar yet, they would just assume the line came from someone they hadn't met yet. Then someone changed it to an image, which makes it a spoiler, but apparently left my comment. I changed it to "He" since I think spoiler tags in page quotes and images are generally ugly and it completely dodges the issue.
