If this trope covers Misogyny Songs and Misandry Songs, why not just call the trope Sexist Song (Sexist Song)?

Because it's a minor difference that doesn't justify a rename.

How is it minor? Please provide a reason.

If a trope is made to provide examples of misandry, the title should reflect that. There's two ways to solve the ommision in the title, that I can see: Change the name of this trope to reflect the inclusion of both misogyny and misandry in music, or make Misandry Song a seperate trope.

A rename is a big undertaking. And renaming or splitting for this reason have been shot down before.

I'm getting rid of the genre-matching notice.

The notice appears to have been put up by one editor who was concerned that the page would degenerate into Complaining About Genres You Don't Like. While I don't doubt that this editor was acting in good faith, the notice was very heavy-handed by the standards of this wiki; we generally only do that sort of thing when there's a serious problem, and then only by moderator fiat. Since the Hip-Hop and rap section consists of a single borderline example, I think it's safe to say that the page hasn't been overrun by complaints of misogyny against the genre. (Also, to someone unfamiliar with the context, the notice sounded a little bit soapboxy.)

If anyone feels that the notice needs to be reinstated, then the issue should go to the Trope Repair Shop.

Does "Under My Thumb" count? It's technically directed at just one girl in particular, but the lyrics sound awfully sexist ("the way she does just what she's told," "I can still look at someone else") and I think it's usually interpreted as a Misogyny Song.

I make the same argument for "Stupid Girl". It is a song loaded with frathouse Take Thats, but it's directed at one person in particular, not an entire gender. Hell, for all we know, the narrator in the song is just overcompensating because said girl dumped him or something and he's trying to save face.

Probably should get working on that essay now...

Ignore this, it wasn't supposed to be a reply.

What the hell is going on here? I give people a hard time about being "politically correct", but this is just ridiculous.

1. The "Misandry" song links to this page, gets a throwaway paragraph acknowledging its existence, and that's it. Really? For an entire GENRE of country music?

2. The line about how any hip-hop song MUST BE MATCHED with something else? I know TV Tropes is supposed to be a fun place, and not to be taken all that seriously, but this is ridiculous. Facts aren't racist. List the songs. If you continue down this road, you're going to end up appeasing every single faction there is.

- In every negative trope, every Anime/Manga example MUST BE PAIRED with a non-Anime/Manga example, because we're not trying to call anybody a weeaboo.

- In every race trope, every example of a white person doing something bad MUST BE PAIRED with an example of another race doing something bad.

I'm exaggerating, of course, but, I'm just really surprised to see this here. It seems like the "sensitive" have seized control; common sense be damned.

Now for a more sensical reply now that I've had my laugh at someone White knighting privilege (lol)...

1) If you want to include misandrist country songs or include more info on Misandry Songs, there is nothing stopping you from doing so, aside from the rules of the site (e.g. don't write it in a Nattery way, avoid Conversation In The Main Page, don't flame people) These are wiki pages, not static at all. The only thing I've done here is write a definition (with help from YKTTW by the way). You can do all the work you want to change things here - but asking me or others to do it for you? How about no, especially since that's not my area of expertise. (I happen to hate country music and hip-hop both. The reason most of my examples are from genres of music I happen to like, Heavy Metal and Visual Kei.)

2) The reason the "please match all Hip-Hop songs" notification is there is because I do not this page to become a Subjective Trope and/or a place for ranting and/or Unfortunate Implications of the "look here and here and here and here and here all Hip-Hop is about woman-hating while our Heavy Metal is just about fun with hot babes." Get it now? As a fan who's very aware of my own fave genres' shortcomings (and guys who hate women because THEY come short ;) ) I can see this fuckery happening and I want to stop it before it starts.

Now, please check your privilege once again. Take it to Trope Repair Shop if you wish but I'm pretty sure they'll make the same points I just did for you :)

(Ninja'd for my accidental red link.)

I'm not asking for any changes to be made. That's why I didn't post in TRS, but rather in the discussion... because I wished to "discuss" what you were doing. I've gotten more than a satisfactory answer. You've pretty much established that what I thought was going on here WAS what was going on here.

You shot your credibility when you accused me of "priviliged whining". To be honest, I don't really care all that much about this trope, or the site in general. I was pointing out a slope you're sliding down, (via presumption of guilt, in your own justification), and thought I'd mention it.

I can already see where my adding any info about misandry in country music would be beat to hell by people as either natter, conversation in the main page, or unfortunate implication. I'm not going to bother (just applying your same presumption of guilt, there.)

I'm fairly certain that if I went all "agent provocateur" and made my proposals regarding anime under a different "knowage" and and a much later date than today, they'd be seriously considered.

See ya in 8 months or so.

Also, please check your attitude, as I should have my own. I apologize for approximately 45% of the snark in my previous post. I didn't mean to come off as quite the jerkass that I did.

But, really, this attitude is why I left TV Tropes the first time. The whole "fun" and "a lot less formal" concepts are getting bulldozed by the serious business and Stop Having Fun Guys.

(I am averting links on purpose, btw. I assume everybody knows what I'm talking about.)

If that is where TV Tropes wants to be, there's nothing I can say to change the tide, and that's fine. But, maybe you should consider adopting WP:AGF, because what you're developing is TT: Don't Bother Editing. I lurk... a lot. What is being done is the paring out of the loose, anything-goes editing. There's positives and negatives to this. One YMMV effect is the stripping down of editors to a core group of "authorities" who ultimately decide what stays and goes on a page, which, in effect, makes this a moderated wiki. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose. But, is that really where you want to be?

I apologize too. I'm sorry, but when I see someone acting like a Troll complete with invoking You Fail Logic Forever, snark, unchecked privilege, and asking to be educated when they could look up stuff, I assume troll and GIFT. Good faith has its limits: if I see someone breaking into a car with a crowbar, I am going to assume "car thief," because that's far more likely than "dude with crowbar locked his keys inside." In the same vein, when I see someone acting like a troll, fuck politeness - I'm not going to play nice with people whose intent is to fuck with me.

And you're QUITE welcome to add country examples. I wouldn't bother them (unless you used This Troper in them or some such) and to be honest? I don't even get why you chose this for your rant. WTF.
