I think we'd better weed out the obvious political natter and generalize it. Lots of people who are purportedly NRA members also misidentify guns when they don't know any better.
Real Life section is interesting - getting a feeling that American gun-nuts of the NRA sort are using it not so much for troping, as for point-scoring against anything that even hints at gun control - making their opponents look stupid and misinformed, and for political sniping. Just a feeling I'm getting, and wondering if tvt is meant to be used this way.
