Removed this:

  • Neo and Trinity: the most forced, inorganic, ass-pull romance in film history.

There was no Meet Cute at play there. They met when Trinity walked up to him, as she and Morpheous planned. There was that bit of banter about Neo thinking that Trinity was male from her exploits, but that's about it.

Wow. Seriously, this entry reads more negatively than most tropes on the Bad Writing index. What happened to Tropes Are Not Bad?

Rewrite by Fast Eddie fixed a lot of the negativity.

HRB: hi guys... umm I was wondering, does Clark and Lex from Smallville count as 'Meet Cute'? I mean, whether they're a romantic couple or not is up to interpretation (meaning Ho Yay) but Lex did crash his car into Clark and Clark saved his life and gave him mouth to mouth.

And the writers themselves actually said they intended for it them to 'Meet Cute'.

Meet Cute in writing terms is not actually related to romance or gender relationships at all. For example, Emmitt and Paden in Silverado are said to Meet Cute in the commentary track of the special edition. It simply means there's no signs of hostility when they meet, allowing the writers to make them friends faster. They do go on to say that in westerns, it generally indicates a romantic relationship will form, but that it's not always the case.

Whether that means this trope page should be rewritten, or that the meaning on TV Tropes differs from what writers mean is open to debate.
