Is it just me, or are people using this page for two different ideas: using "normal" martial arts to do everyday things (such as Leela unplugging the fridge and Leonardo slicing the pizza), and the development of a non-martial skill to martial proportions? The second seems to be what this page is supposed to be about (given Ranma is the Trope Codifier).

Do examples of the first type even belong here? Are, perhaps, some edits in order?

I'm reasonably certain this trope has roots in reality, in as much as Gung Fu is thought of as "a way" or "an art" of doing something. Mastery of any set of skills is Kung Fu, whether it be for combat, practical purposes, or simply as a form of meditation. Since Calligraphy, Tai-chi, Archery, and Tea Ceremonies have all been described by Eastern philosophers as forms of meditation, this is doubly true.
