The Dukes of Hazzard theme song: "I'm a good ol'boy, You know know my mama loves me, She dont understand they keep showing my hands and not my face on TV."
Interesting trope, but the example quoted at the top is not this trope. It is stated many times that this trope is about family reactions, and although a family reaction is implied (weakly) in the example, it's not outright stated.
If it's 'reaction to ANY children's wrong-doing in ANY way', the title is I feel too specific, while the trope itself verges on People Sit On Chairs.
If it's "Parents/Guardians react with disbelief and disavowing of responsibility to news that child is criminal" I like it better.
Hide / Show RepliesI agree. Currently, the trope reads almost like "Criminals Have Parents". It needs to be narrowed down from that, and "Parents/Guardians react with disbelief and disavowing of responsibility to news that child is criminal" sounds good.
I suggest that "Not My Baby" be added as an alternate title, due to that phrase commonly being used to represent the same thing.
