There should be two types of this trope: ones who rely on their own physical strength and ones who use their magic to strengthen themselves.

I feel like we need to add the Knights Radiant from The Stormlight Archive to this trope. Not only do they tend to be warriors who supplement their combat with magic, they also have magic they can apply outside battle.

Suggestions for Alternative Titles: - Gish (how the archetype is known in Dn D and general tabletop RPG communities) - Swordmage (as it's seen in some games) - Spellblade - Rune Knight - less common: Rune Fencer, Magic Fencer, Mystic Knight.

Who's the original example of this, Odin or Merlin? Both of their stories were codified into their current forms at about the same time, and, though I'd imagine that stories of Odin have been passed around a lot longer than stories of Merlin, was he always described this way?
