I saw the example from Orange Is the New Black, and while it's technically this trope, I have to wonder if it fits the spirit of the trope. I might be mistaken — I haven't seen the fourth season — but my sense was that Alex's mother was at least an okay person, which makes me think that perhaps Alex chose to have a private burial.
If the idea of the trope is that the funeral is poorly attended specifically because no one likes the person being buried, perhaps we should make it explicit that they must be canonically disliked.
