As far as I know, the other kids in the Naruto 'verse knew what he was. I recall one of the girls in EP. 1 saying "Isn't he the...?" "Pshh, you shouldn't talk about that!". Just asking if anyone else remembers that.
The "They were wimps, though" comment has GOT TO GO. It's one person's opinion, and it has no place on the main page, never mind the fact that it is fantastically insensitive and uncalled-for. The individual who posted it obviously didn't take into account the fact that people who have had someone close to them kill themselves (this troper being one of them) may encounter it and be offended. I do appreciate the hot tip for the time being, though.

Just FYI that I believe the remark about the Irish girl in Missouri who committed suicide was in fact about a girl in Massachusetts named Phoebe Prince, so I corrected it, unless there was another I wasn't aware of, then feel free to change it back.
