Should this cover more than just the Judge Dredd-type character? I mean, what about Spectres from Mass Effect, or Gray Wardens? They have a sort of carte blanche authority sanctioned by a government, but aren't really out to enforce the law, just to ensure major threats to the state/common good/whatever are nullified. What would they fall under? The Operative from Firefly would also fit under this subcategory of sorts, as he's not really out to enforce the law, just to keep really unpleasant skeletons in the Parliament's closet. He probably couldn't care less about the condemned jaywalker given as an example in the trope description.

Should this trope possibly be instead called "Carte Blanche", to encompass more than just the Judge Dredd type? Maybe a "Type A" that's the Judge Jury Executioner type, and then a Type B, that's "The Government's Underhand"
