The term has had some semantic drift. Plenty of the games mentioned here are simple text adventures, whereas "interactive fiction" has come to mean for the average consumer media which is interactive but where the goal is more centered on experiencing the story than the traditional "overcome the challenge" gameplay loop. There is some overlap with walking sims and the newer definition, but even those tend to be more centered on an ambient experience and/or reaching various points/items, whereas stuff tagged with interactive fiction is "purer".

An example is Her Story. While there is a "finish the game" trigger once you've seen some key scenes, most of the gameplay is centered about just seeing more of the videos and soaking up on the story rather than doing anything.

Page quote: So, do any other genres have a page quote slagging off the entire genre, which goes on to insult every person who enjoys or participates in the genre? Or is it OK to delete that?

...since no one spoke up, I've deleted it. Maybe it should go in a trope rather than the main page, if there's one that fits.
