I've took this YMMV entry out (along with rebuttal). This entry actually fits in with both this trope and Insufferable Genius. Spoiling a movie is Jerkass behavior. So is tacking on God is fake on windshields.

"*** YMMV. Keep in mind that his I.Q. was 105, and that this was Genius compared to the rest of Springfield. He was basically pointing out that the movie was pretty much crap, and pointing out a certain belief is wrong isn't really Jerk Ass: It's what the average scientist does every day. And if I remember correctly, he did try to use his intelligence for good, but he was ostracized for it.

  • Call it intelligence without wisdom, then. People tend to learn early that Brutal Honesty doesn't go over well with people, and censor their truth accordingly; this is especially valuable with religious beliefs. True or not, pinning "proof that God doesn't exist" on windshields isn't a neutral or mild act by any means."

Autistics (specifically HF As and aspies) tend to pick up skills that interest them very quickly, with many of such skills being included as skills of an ideal student. This sort of brain design also leads to a lack of understanding and natural following of social rituals, such that autistics tend to have difficulty getting along with non-autistic individuals. As autism is rather rare (rarely is there even one in any given class), autistics are often isolated.

Where to start? The whole autism = gifted in a specific way has been discredited already. Not all those diagnosed with autism are a Rain Man in disguise. Most of them lead lives being emotionally cut of from the rest of the world, not being able to relate to or understand their surroundings. Just let that sink in for a moment and you might start to understand the rage and despair these people will be able to convey to you at one point. Makes you kind of wonder if this autism entry truly belongs in this Trope listing.

In short: Autism = Rare. Autism + Genius = Rarer still.

On a related note, I'm not comfortable with the blanket assertion that athletic guys and attractive girls "tend to shun intelligence and education." While there are plenty of athletes and attractive people who are not particularly intelligent or interested in learning, there are also plenty who do have intellectual gifts and/or work hard in academics.
