Moving this example here for the time being:
- This Troper can testify to that. Due to complications, my wife was forced to give birth to our first child with no anesthetic, and now frequently comments on how the other women in the ward, who took epidurals and suchlike, were in much worse shape afterward than she was. She was up and walking around less than six hours later. What you gain from anesthetic during the birth, you pay for in spades over the next few days - which is why she's seriously considering having no anesthetic by choice next time around.
