Anyone else think this trope (or at least its description) is a bit naive? Aside from saying that ideals and laws that aren't exactly universal should be, it's not as if those same ideals and laws haven't been suspended before for much less than being non-human. It's definitely not so clear-cut as to say that examples of it count as You Fail Law Forevermaybe in the sense of legal theory, but definitely not in actual practice.

Yes, I dislike this description. The U.S. Supreme Court has already ruled many times that HUMANS who are not U.S. Citizens are not entitled to various rights, so are they really going to get upset at non-human aliens?

I've tried to point that out but my edits are always removed by Pollyannas or such. People love to think their government is the good guys who do the right thing.
