This was on the page when it was called 1-Up Sampo. No longer fits, but I thought it was interesting, so saving it here for now:

Named after the Finnish mythological object featured in The Kalevala that is rumored to produce an unlimited amount of gold, flour and salt. (A sampo also featured in a classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode which spoofed the 1959 film Sampo.)

Searching for plausible mechanisms.

Dr Lombriz: I realize that animated images are bigger, but I feel the new static image doesn't convey the "sampo" as well as the animated image did. You can't even see the koopa shell behind the flash, for instance. Thoughts?
